Boston Medical Center Menino Addition

Sunrise was contracted to help bring the design-assist concept to reality for the Boston Medical Center Menino addition and renovation following a late determination that the existing unitized design could not be executed.

As a result, we were faced with the particular challenge of maintaining the original project schedule with a fraction of the time to engineer and procure the façade.

To help expedite the process, this project utilized a design-assist approach and colocation. Sunrise engineers/project managers participated in weekly design-assist meetings with TRO JB Architects to help convert this façade design from a fully unitized system to a more conventional stick-built system.

Sunrise was able to prioritize the engineering of long lead time items and begin procurement while the framing systems were being developed. This unconventional approach gave us the flexibility we needed to meet the demanding project schedule.

The full scope included installation of air and vapor barrier, thermally broken exterior framing, insulation, aluminum curtainwall, aluminum entrances, aluminum windows, aluminum skylight, composite metal panels, terra cotta, expansion joints and miscellaneous interior glass and glazing.

Mattapan Community Health Center

Completed in 2013, this 50,000 sq. ft., four-story community health center provides the residents of Mattapan and surrounding communities with comprehensive primary healthcare along with social services and a community space for the urban neighborhood. Sunrise’s scope of work included the complete NBK terra cotta rainscreen façade.

Worcester Recovery Center & Hospital

Completed in 2012, the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is a secure, chronic care facility with 260 adult beds and 60 adolescent beds. Emphasizing a therapeutic model of care, the new state facility replaces the former Westborough and Worcester state hospitals with a village-like setting featuring clusters of living and dining areas along with retail shops, a bank, library, hair salon, fitness facilities, art and craft learning areas, medical and dental clinics, a pharmacy, classrooms, a music room, chapel, and conference center.

Sunrise’s scope of work included the fabrication and installation of SEI’s aluminum composite rainscreen panel system, installation of Airolite architectural louvers, and installation of Kingspan insulated metal panels.
