Completed in 2018, the award-winning South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center (SBWTC) is a new multi-level, multi-user parking facility located on a portion of Massport’s Core Block parcel in the Seaport District.
Designed by Fennick McCredie Architecture, the 500,000 sq. ft. garage was built over the I-90 tunnel structure and was designed to both fill a need for additional parking spaces and provide a user experience that is integrated into the fabric of the South Boston Waterfront District.
The project incorporated sustainable and resilient design elements. Sunrise’s scope included the furnishing and installation of curtainwall, storefront, doors, glazing, ACM, and CW louvers.
This project was particularly unique due to the louver fins — 678 of them in all, supplied by Metalwerks — each engineered with threaded rods and yokes to stabilize against harsh winds and tied back to the building with knife plates and T brackets.
